Another holiday weekend is upon us, and with it are promises of great festivals, sales, and of course, food! Labor Day is the official herald of the end of summer, but that doesn’t mean the fun needs to stop!

If you’re worried about your keto journey getting derailed, there’s really no reason to. The ketogenic diet is one of the most versatile diets there is, so gather your friends and family and enjoy a meal together with these keto-friendly labor day recipes!

Breakfast and Appetizers for Labor Day Weekend

There’s nothing like starting the day with delicious, crunchy, golden-brown bacon. While a lot of people has deemed bacon as unhealthy with all its saturated fat, the fact is that there’s really no evidence that saturated fat itself causes heart disease.

On the contrary, it’s eating too much carbohydrates that leads to obesity, which causes inflammation in the body, which is what leads to heart disease.

If you’re worried about the sodium content of bacon, it’s often an issue not if you’re on a low-carb diet like keto. If you have high blood pressure find an integrative medicine doctor that understand keto and your blood pressure needs. Consuming very little carbohydrates does have initial side effects, which can include feeling fatigued, getting cramps and headaches because of low electrolyte levels. Bacon is a good source of this sodium, but of course, don’t overdo it! You could substitute with red meat.

So, if you’re up to making a fancy breakfast this labor day weekend, why not give this bacon-wrapped pickles a try?

This BLT cup is made using strips of bacon molded into cups using muffin tins. Then, you fill them up with fresh veggies and some Greek yogurt, which is a good source of protein. This recipe also calls for some avocado – one of the go-to foods for Keto dieters!

If you’re looking for an in-between meal snack, you can make these bacon-wrapped pickles. Keto allows eating fermented food like yogurt, pickles, sauerkraut, and kimchi, so this works out well!

Labor Day Recipes for Lunch

Cookout staples, of course, includes a lot of meat, most of which are partnered with mashed carbs or stuck between bread. That doesn’t mean we can’t simulate those classic sandwiches without using carbs though!

If you’re aching for a burger, go ahead and get burger patties during one of the labor day sales. In order to make this keto, this recipe replaces buns with pineapple rings or lettuce! You get the same savory beef patty with an extra punch of protein and fat from the bacon strips. The sweet pineapple slices are refreshing against the meat, and it’s well within keto carbs limit!

Another recipe that eliminates bread is this foil-wrapped Philly cheesesteak. Enjoy the scrumptious strips of flank steak and nicely grilled vegetables without the carbs. This is an easy grill-top recipe that you can quickly whip up for your cookout guests!

Dinner Recipes for Labor Day

After a long day of grilling outside, you might feel like chilling out at home with a simple dinner. We’ve gathered a couple of easy to prepare recipes that you can throw together in no time and eat while binge-watching your favorite show on Netflix.

You can actually throw together your leftovers from the cookout and make them into these bacon and mushroom mug muffins. It calls for a bit of almond flour, but hey, that’s flour from nuts so it’s perfectly fine for keto. You only need your microwave to cook these as well!

If you’re craving pizza, then this tortilla dough bacon pizza would be the perfect choice. It has only 11.2g of carbohydrates, half of which is dietary fiber, so it’s all good! Like the previous one, this is also a good way to finish off the leftovers from the cookout.

Labor Day Desserts

Now, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t worry. You can still indulge your cravings while remaining keto! Since you’re allowed to eat fruits, these fruit-based desserts are worth a try.

This strawberry chia seed and almond milk pudding is a breeze to prepare. Chia seeds are a good source of omega-3 fat that keto meals are supposed to contain, so it’s perfect! You can switch out the strawberries with blueberry or raspberries if that’s what’s available in your pantry.

Another way to finish off excess berries that might be lying around in your freezer is this blueberry crisp recipe. It does call for low carb sweetener for the filling and topping. This recipe contains 10g of carbohydrates per serving. Still way within the carbs limit for keto though!

If you’re looking for something more chocolatey, check out the keto-friendly desserts we featured before. As you know, dark chocolate contains little sugar so it’s good for low carb meals.
