Genetically modified foods are the hugely controversial topic on 14-year-old Rachel Parent’s mind. She’s started the organization: A Teen’s Right to Know, which pushes for GMO labeling and long term testing.
She challenges Kevin O’Leary, from Shark Tank, to debate the merits of GMO on his show after he called GMO opponents “stupid”. Ninety percent of all corn, cotton and soy grown in the United States is GMO, so labeling would allow concerned individuals to choose the 10 percent that are GMO-free.
O’Leary tries to paint Rachel as an extremist, telling her that banning GMO would be a death sentence for millions around the world. He encourages her to have flexibility around the merits of science on food.
Rachel responds that she IS for ethical and responsible science. As Leary’s co-host observes, “We’re all lab rat in this long term (GMO) study”.
