Fasting in some way is necessary to conduct a full body cleanse.  It has been a healing and cleansing technique for many ages.  Fasting should not be seen as a weight-loss technique, although the loss of weight may be one of its consequences; in reality, fasting is a way of purifying and cleansing the body, and the person loses weight as the organism gets rid of excess waste.

Animals instinctively fast when they feel sick and they know how to do it; we, human beings, need direction on how to fast safely.

Fasting is very effective for problems related to over-nutrition in countries where there is abundance of food and obesity has become a health issue, prompting all kinds of diseases that were rarely experienced in the past.

In order to fast effectively, you must stop ingesting solid foods and stick to a liquid diet for a certain period of time.  It is vital that you remember that you are fasting to cleanse your body, so, although it may be hard in the beginning, once it is over you will experience a boost in energy and in health.

Juice fasting

Fasting by ingesting juice is best because the body is receiving the vitamins and nutrients it requires even while cleansing.  A safe juice fasting should meet these requirements:

-   Talk to your doctor before fasting.  It may not be good for certain people, for example:

_ Very slim individuals, prone to anorexia, bulimia, or behavioral disorders.

_ Anemic individuals.

_ People suffering from tumors, cancer, blood diseases, ulcers, diabetes, hyperglycemia, and heart disease.

_ Pregnant and nursing women.

-      The general opinion is that fasting should occur during spring, the warm months.

-      A week before starting to fast, stop eating most of the things you usually eat, and stick to the basics: fresh fruits, vegetables, and beans.

-      While fasting, avoid citrics and drink juices made out of celery, carrots, kale, cabbage, apple, pineapple, cranberry, spinach, beets, and greens.  You have to drink around 32 to 64 ounces of juice daily.

-      Drink 6 glasses of water per day; drink it warm, because your system takes it better.

-      Consume organic fruits and vegetables; if you can’t find them, thoroughly wash and peel the fruits and vegetables you buy.

-      Include lots of green vegetables; these are extremely healthy because of the chlorophyll.

-      There are different juice diets.  Some require you drink only juices, while others require a healthy meal once a day.

-      There are several fruits and vegetables that should not be juiced, for example: apricots, cherries, citrus peels, peach pits, apple seeds, carrot and rhubarb tops, avocados, and bananas, as well as kiwi and mango skins.

-      Do not eat red or white meats, eggs, and dairy products.  You can have a tablespoon of honey once a day.

-      Keep the juice fast active until you feel free of any toxic symptoms for two days.  You may not feel well while fasting, but keep going. The benefits will be worth it.
